Processing in the browser

The details you enter in Mietlupe (e.g. rent, living space, year of construction, street) are processed exclusively locally in your browser in order to calculate the result. This data is not transmitted to a server and not shared with third parties. The mapping of the street to the rent index area also happens entirely in the browser, using a locally bundled dataset from the City of Dortmund. No external request is made.

Temporary storage in your browser (session storage)

So that your answers are not lost when you reload the page or switch language, Mietlupe keeps them in your browser’s session storage (under the key mietpreischeck:checker:v1). This storage belongs to your browser tab: the data stays on your device, is not transmitted, and is deleted as soon as you close the tab. It is neither a cookie nor tracking.

Under the key mietpreischeck:intro:v1, the home page additionally remembers that its build-up animation has already played in this tab, so that it is not replayed on your next visit to the page. Nothing but that one marker is stored, and it relates to no person.

The legal basis for this access to your terminal equipment is § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG: the storage is strictly necessary for the calculator you requested to work across several steps and for the page to behave the way you called it up. No consent is required for it. You can clear this storage at any time via your browser settings.

Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by Netlify (Netlify, Inc., 512 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When the page is accessed, the host processes technically necessary access data (including IP address, date and time of access, page accessed, volume of data transferred, browser type and referrer) in order to deliver the website and ensure its security. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure and stable operation).

A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Netlify. Where personal data is transferred to the USA in this context, this is done on the basis of the standard contractual clauses adopted by the EU Commission.

Reach measurement with Umami

To understand how Mietlupe is used, we use the analytics software Umami in its hosted EU variant; the data is processed on servers within the European Union. It records technical details of the page view: the page requested, the referrer, device type, browser, operating system, screen size, language and, derived from the IP address, the country of origin.

Umami works without cookies: nothing is stored on or read from your device. Your IP address is not stored; it is only briefly processed into a non-reversible checksum so that repeat views within a single day can be grouped. No cross-device profiles are created and the data is not combined with other sources.

Your entries in the calculator (rent, floor area, construction year, street, result) are not transmitted. Reach measurement only covers the page view itself.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in statistical analysis of usage in order to improve the service. Consent under § 25 (1) TDDDG is not required, because no information is stored on or retrieved from your device. A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with the provider.

You can object to reach measurement at any time (Art. 21 GDPR), informally by e-mail to hi@mietlupe.de. Technically, a script or tracking blocker also prevents the measurement.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies and uses no advertising technologies. The only storage accesses are the two session storage entries described above.

Retention period

We do not store any personal data on servers ourselves. Your entries live only in your browser’s session storage and are deleted when you close the tab (see above). Server log files at the host are kept only for a short period for security and operational purposes in accordance with the host’s policies and are then deleted. The statistical data from reach measurement is not personal and is retained in aggregated form.
