Processing in the browser

The details you enter in Mietlupe (e.g. rent, living space, year of construction, street) are processed exclusively locally in your browser in order to calculate the result. This data is not transmitted to a server and not shared with third parties. The mapping of the street to the rent index area also happens entirely in the browser, using a locally bundled dataset from the City of Dortmund – no external request is made.

Temporary storage in your browser (session storage)

So that your answers are not lost when you reload the page or switch language, Mietlupe keeps them in your browser’s session storage (under the key mietpreischeck:checker:v1). This storage belongs to your browser tab: the data stays on your device, is not transmitted, and is deleted as soon as you close the tab. It is neither a cookie nor tracking.

The legal basis for this access to your terminal equipment is § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG: the storage is strictly necessary for the calculator you requested to work across several steps. No consent is required for it. You can clear this storage at any time via your browser settings.

Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by Netlify (Netlify, Inc., 512 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When the page is accessed, the host processes technically necessary access data (including IP address, date and time of access, page accessed, volume of data transferred, browser type and referrer) in order to deliver the website and ensure its security. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure and stable operation).

A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Netlify. Where personal data is transferred to the USA in this context, this is done on the basis of the standard contractual clauses adopted by the EU Commission.

Encryption (SSL/TLS)

For security reasons, this website uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the “https://” in your browser’s address bar.

Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies and uses no tracking, web analytics or advertising technologies.

Retention period

We do not store any personal data on servers ourselves. Your entries live only in your browser’s session storage and are deleted when you close the tab (see above). Server log files at the host are kept only for a short period for security and operational purposes in accordance with the host’s policies and are then deleted.
